What is STEAM?

What is STEAM?

Hedef High School is the first private high school in our country that provides STEAM-based education. STEAM is an acronym formed from the initials of the words science, technology, engineering, art, and math (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and is the name of an educational philosophy based on an interdisciplinary and applied approach that aims to teach by integrating these subjects.

The relevant UNESCO report states that engineering is the engine of social, economic, and humanitarian development, and it is noted that there is currently a shortage of qualified engineering personnel worldwide and this situation will continue in the near future. Academic and official institutions in advanced countries see the widespread dissemination of STEAM-based education as a national strategic goal, and the number of STEAM-based educational institutions is growing rapidly.

Hedef High School aims for our children to absorb the theoretical knowledge profoundly they learn in natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics classes by observing and touching various experiences in the integration center of our high school and asking questions based on specific examples of those experiences. Our educational program includes our students conducting experiments in physics, chemistry, and electrical-electronics, designing and programming in engineering workshops, processing and assembling various experimental devices and mechanisms, and optimally designing and providing software for the devices and mechanisms they have prepared. Our main goal for our children is to learn the subjects taught in high school not only as separate teachings of the theoretical and practical worlds, but as a whole, touching and applying.

Science is the only way to gain knowledge about the objective world. We discover the laws of nature through the scientific method, and while deepening our understanding of the universe, we refer to these laws in solving practical problems. People have always created technologies; it is impossible to live without technology.

Hedef High School has set a goal to teach technological processes and equipment by understanding the principles of science, being in contact with and touching production, and encouraging and supporting the first steps our students will take today to create new technologies in the future by creating an environment of theoretical and practical lessons and exercises.

Engineering is a way of creating technologies, a process that combines science and technology. Engineering is the ability to imagine solutions to people's problems and needs, to calculate the performance of the final product, and to produce it economically. A rich imagination is an essential condition for using modern calculation and design principles to come up with real solutions, knowing the laws of nature in depth. Hedef High School adds creativity to its science, technology, engineering, and math curriculum to enrich the imaginations of future scientists and engineers.

Arts - is a field that can be said to be contemporary with humanity as a human activity that emerges from life. Like science, art was born from man's desire to learn and master natural phenomena. Although the meanings of the word "art" have changed over time from ancient times to the present, the reason why the products created by mankind are superior to the products of nature is that they convey the objects we perceive through technical mastery and senses with a mysterious aesthetic language. Target High School adds creative learning to science, technology, engineering and math instruction to enrich the imaginations of tomorrow's scientists and engineers.

Mathematics is the universal language of the objective world. Nature speaks to us in this language. It is impossible to ask nature a question and understand its answer without deep knowledge of mathematics. Mathematics allows us to measure, calculate, develop mathematical models, and take steps to transform theoretical knowledge into practical tools.

Hedef High School attaches great importance to the in-depth assimilation of informatics and mathematics, which is the language of the universe, by our students and their successful application to solving practical problems. A scientist of the future who learns by doing, who can go beyond stereotyped ways of thinking with his creative imagination, who offers optimal engineering, programming, and design solutions taking into account the directions of human development, aims to train engineers, programmers, and designers.

We have set ourselves the goal that the students of our high school will follow in the footsteps of Nasireddin Tusi, Yusif Mammadaliyev, Khudu Mammadov, and Lutfi Zade and become future specialists who will open new paths in the fields of nanotechnology, ecology, programming, electricity and electronics, robotics, artificial intelligence, and industrial design. After the industrial revolution, the world has entered the next great era of change, driven by digital technologies. It is not difficult to guess that in this period of great change, only the society of scientists and engineers who have creative and flexible imaginations, keep up with the pace of human development, and create added value in the form of knowledge will be able to keep up with the pace of development
