A book fair was held in Sumgayit

Winners of the Kitabqurdu Reading Marathon awarded

Hadaf Lyceum reports that the 5th Sumgayit Book Fair was held on December 5–7 at the Sumgayit Chemist Cultural Palace.
The fair was jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Publishers Association Public Union, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Sumgayit City Executive Power.

More than 30 publishing houses and nearly 40 writers participated in the fair.

At the opening ceremony, representatives from the Ministry of Culture’s Book Industry Department employee Khayal Mammadov, Member of Parliament Mehriban Valiyeva, as well as scholars and official representatives from Türkiye, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan who visited our country to participate in the founding meeting of the Turan Balabilge Academy attended the event.

During the ceremony, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Publishers Association Public Union, PhD in Philology Shamil Sadiq, Head of the Book Industry Department of the Ministry of Culture Vasif Qurbanzade, President of the Turan Academy in Kazakhstan Professor Rahman Alshanov, MP from Sumgayit Mehriban Valiyeva, Head of the Poetry Department of the Sumgayit branch of the Azerbaijan Writers’ Union Ibrahim Ilyasli, and Presidential Scholar, poet, honored teacher Ofeliya Babayeva delivered speeches.

Within the framework of the fair, the awarding ceremony of the 5th Kitabqurdu Reading Marathon among Sumgayit schoolchildren was held.
Project leader of the Kitabqurdu Marathon and director of XAN Publishing House Sabuhi Shahmursoy and the marathon’s sponsor, head of the AMAL Charity Society Rufat Mirzayev, spoke during the ceremony.

Students who scored the highest in the exam were awarded:
1st place – Leyla Yusifzada (daughter of Mushfig)
2nd place – Farid Babayev (son of Elnur)
3rd places – Mohsun Mammadov (son of Ismayil), Kurshan Cavadzada (daughter of Tural), Sohbat Rahimli (son of Beyrek).

The winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places received awards worth 500, 1000 and 100 AZN respectively.
Another 8 participants were honored with certificates and gifts.
