International Mother Language Day Celebrated with a Series of Events at Hədəf Lyceums

On February 21 – on the occasion of International Mother Language Day – a series of educational and patriotic events were organized at Hədəf Lyceums. Within the framework of “Mother Language Week,” literary and artistic compositions reflecting the richness of our mother tongue, its historical roots, and its role in our national identity were presented with the participation of young students.

As part of the program titled “To Those Who Do Not Know Their Mother Tongue,” students delivered speeches, staged patriotic performances, and presented national dances reflecting the spirit of cultural heritage.

The event held at the Nasimi branch of Hədəf STEAM Lyceum began with a historical scene — a dramatized dialogue between Agha Mohammad Shah Qajar and Molla Panah Vagif. Students performed in various regional dialects, demonstrating the dialectological richness of the Azerbaijani language. The program featured poems dedicated to the essence of our language, musical and dance performances, and a collective performance of the song “Azerbaijan Song” with the audience.

Speakers at the events noted that amid globalization and the rapid development of information technologies, interaction between languages has intensified, and the growing number of borrowed foreign words affects the purity of the Azerbaijani language. It was emphasized that preserving the mother tongue is a moral duty of every citizen.

The founder and director of the Hədəf Group of Companies, Associate Professor Shamil Sadiq, stated in his speech that the mother tongue is the main pillar of our national identity. He noted that language is not only a means of communication but also the historical memory, cultural heritage, and way of thinking of a people:

“The Azerbaijani language is the mirror of our identity. Preserving it and passing it on to future generations in its pure form is the duty of each of us. Our youth must deeply master the richness of our language and use its possibilities correctly and responsibly in daily communication.”

Shamil Sadiq congratulated the students on their successful performances and emphasized that such events make an important contribution to fostering commitment to national and moral values among young learners. He also stressed that preserving the mother tongue is not only the responsibility of schools but also of families and society as a whole.

The school administration and teachers also delivered speeches, highlighting the importance of maintaining the purity of our mother tongue, using it correctly, and passing it on to future generations.

The series of events concluded with memorable moments and played a significant role in strengthening students’ love and respect for their mother tongue, as well as reinforcing their sense of national identity.
